  The percentage increase in members compared to previous year is steadily decreasing. In 2008, the number of members joined in a month is almost same as in 2007 except months of January, February, May, June, November & December.

  How to change Speed Dial thumbnail images in Opera?

  If you don't like the default Speed Dial thumbnail images, you can change them easily.

  1. Convert the image you want to use as thumbnail to PNG format using Microsoft Paint (Open image, File → Save As and select 'Save as type' as PNG) or any image editor. There is no limitation on size of image but 256x192 pixels or less is recommended.
  2. Go to profile\thumbnails directory.
  3. Find and replace already existing thumbnail image with new image with original name.
  4. Set 'Read only' attribute (Right click on image → Properties) to prevent update of thumbnail image when you use reload.
  5. Restart Opera to see new thumbnail image in Speed Dial.

  Opera Profile Creator

  You can create another profile manually but it is cumbersome in Windows (In Linux, use command line opera -pd ~/opera-profile-new/ to create new profile). Opera Profile Creator was created using AutoHotkey to make profile creation easier.

  You can use another profile to

  • login to another accounts of a site simultaneously.
  • load a site that crashes Opera frequently.
  • play with settings without affecting your existing profile.
  • check whether there is a problem in existing profile.

  Download (size: 204 KB), unzip, place OperaProfileCreator.exe anywhere and run it to create new profile. Click the newly created shortcut to start Opera with new clean profile.

  You can create as many profiles as you want and run them simultaneously with single Opera installation.

  • Path to new profile directory should not have trailing slash (/) when you enter it manually.
  • Path to shortcut should end with .lnk as shown in screenshot.

  Opera has some special pages that show various information. The following is the list of the opera: pages available in Opera browser.

  Entry	Description
  opera:about	Displays version information, browser identification and paths.
  opera:blank	Displays blank page.
  opera:cache	Displays cache content. See Advanced search, thumbnails & sorting in opera:cache.
  opera:config	Displays preferences editor page allowing access to many configuration options not available through preferences window. See Useful opera:config (Opera Preferences Editor) entries.
  opera:debug	For remote debugging. See Remote debugging with Opera Dragonfly.
  opera:drives*	Displays local drives in your system. Browse local drives to view images, html files, text files, etc. Browse to an image directory (or drag & drop an image directory from file manager to Opera) and use mouse gestures, flip forward & flip back to navigate between next & previous images.

  Opera Launcher

  Opera Launcher was created using AutoHotkey. It can

  • create daily backup of bookmarks, notes & sessions with date stamp. Bookmarks & notes backups will be created in profile\backups directory.
  • disable crash startup dialog.
  • delete quick find search histories.
  • empty Temporary Download Directory (not Cache Directory).

  Download (size: 204 KB), unzip, place OperaLauncher.exe inside Opera installation directory (C:\Program Files\Opera\) and run it to launch Opera. You will see the following settings dialog when you run OperaLauncher.exe first time.

  To restore previous version of bookmarks/notes, close Opera, move a version of opera6*.adr/notes*.adr from profile\backups directory to profile directory and rename to opera6.adr/notes.adr.

  Opera Mini 4.2 beta released

  Opera Software released the first beta of Opera Mini 4.2.

  New features:

  • Synchronize, edit and delete notes via Opera Link.
  • 24 new languages.
  • Better handling of RTSP, enabling more users to watch video.
  • Skins are back (along with new skins).
  • “Accept” link at the end of the EULA (for BlackBerry users).

  Opera Mini users in the US and Asia-Pacific region can now experience faster speed, due to the addition of an Opera Mini server park in the US.

  Known issues:

  • Some of the new languages are not fully translated for the beta, but will be fully supported for the final version.
  • There are several issues with notes in Opera Link. Your device may not support viewing or editing of very large notes. Backup your notes before trying.

  How to reset master password in Opera?

  The following will help you to reset master password if you forget it.

  If Tools → Preferences... → Advanced → Security → Use master password to protect saved passwords is not enabled, delete opcert6.dat from profile after closing Opera.

  If Tools → Preferences... → Advanced → Security → Use master password to protect saved passwords is enabled, delete/rename opcert6.dat & wand.dat from profile after closing Opera.

  If you delete/rename wand.dat, you will lose all stored passwords in wand.

  Apple blocks Opera Mini on iPhone

  Mr. von Tetzchner said that Opera’s engineers have developed a version of Opera Mini that can run on an Apple iPhone, but Apple won’t let the company release it because it competes with Apple’s own Safari browser.

  • Accidentally removed transfer from the transfers tab.
  • Closed Opera with an intention to resume download next day but transfer is missing when Opera is started.
  • Resuming download with an another high speed mirror.

  The following will work when server allows resuming of broken downloads.

  1. Start download again and save with another name.
  2. Stop transfer after few seconds.
  3. Delete new download file.
  4. Rename old download file with new name.
  5. Resume transfer.
